Lanes

It’s 9:58p, LA time. Back in the lab shit.

Social media has opened  a  window into the amazing lives of beautiful people who are living life and every night there’s a party or every day is brunch. Go to any social media outlet, I can guarantee that you’ll see Instamodels, Vine stars, everybody on vacations in exotic locales, and a selfie full of teeth. Think about how much time you spend scrolling through photos and videos highlighting people at their best and living their “best lives”. Not saying that people are faking the funk, but I can say that social media has created an unnecessary need for competition with people we’ll probably NEVER meet in real life. I’ve found myself falling into that trap where I’m left wondering if I chose the wrong career path, when I see some of my peers living out in Dubai being fly with fashion and riding ATVs in the dessert.

I notice that when you’re in your late 20s and early 30s, you’re really trying to find your greatness and forget about YOUR OWN DOPENESS. Your peers are on the same track whether they know it or not, in their own lane. You got to stay in YOUR lane and things will work out within time. Patience is truly a MAJOR KEY! I understand the need to compare your experience to someone else’s experience (especially within the Black community), but we have to move away from this.. There are so many other things happening in our society and the system of oppression is constantly trying to silence if you haven’t been paying attention. We have to come together as a community and put each other. Celebrate each other’s successes, from the smallest to the biggest. We’re in a society that promotes self perseveration and distrust, but we have to fight that. I know this isn’t the rhetoric that we’re taught, however, we need. As ‘Ye said:

Troll conventional thought, don’t need to question
I know it’s antiquated so sometimes I get aggressive

We can do this! We are all on the Most High’s ultralight beams!
